A
STEM-literate graduate is not only a problem solver, innovator,
inventor, and logical thinker, but is able to enter a college-level
course of study in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math without
the need for remediation.
The STEM curriculum provides a strong academic foundation rooted in the
knowledge used to solve complex problems. STEM-literate graduates have
the ability to import this knowledge across all disciplines both inside
and out of the scientific and technological realms. They can
intuitively leverage existing resources to accomplish tasks
independently using STEM techniques.
STEM-literate graduates will be able to immediately take advantage of
opportunities made available to them through post-secondary
institutions and businesses.
In Ohio, 37 percent of recent high school graduates took at least one
remedial course in English or Math during their first year in college,
costing the state $32 million a year.
- Ohio Board of Regents, January 2007
The STEM-literate graduate has the ability to enter a college-level
course of study in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math without
need for remediation of any kind.
STEM-literate graduates will be ready to compete in our technologically
advancing world. Meet some STEM students and see for yourself how STEM
literacy is making a difference.
